October 2008 Alaivani Newsletter

Hi Friends:

Hope you been well. Happy Diwali (October 28) and Halloween (October 31). (Read the Story of Diwali here.)  Hearing those two holidays, we know fall has fallen upon us. It is a bit sad for me as this year we have been very active in the summer going on many biking trips (see slideshow by Krishna). Now it has become chilly and soon bikes will have to be put up (or in) for the colder seasons. Can’t wait for next spring/summer.

We are finally nearing the end of the holiday season. This year was especially busy for us. Again, I was honored to be part of the Thiruvathirakali (Kerala, South Indian folk dance) dance performance for Onam. You can see that video or slideshow of stills. We also hosted a Ganesh puja for Ganesh Chathurthi at Hamlin Beach State Park, Onam party at our home, and 9 nights and 10 days of Navarathri Golu at our house. Even golu just coming to a close as I laid one of the dolls on it’s side. Good night Golu, until next year. This year’s golu was aweinspiring and beautiful, as you can see in these photos.

Regards,

Jennifer Jayanthi Kumar
