Mysterious Laws of Attraction – Barriers to Indian-American Friendship and Relationship Building

As they say, “beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” But, what compels people to be attracted to others?

What compels us to be attracted to those ‘like us’- in our own ethnic, racial, cultural, educational, professional and other social groupings? Is it easier to be attracted to those we see on a regular basis who are ‘like us’ or is it easier to be attracted to someone totally different? These are some thoughts to ponder while wondering if and why white American women would be attracted to Desi (from India) men. Interestingly, I did miss one important point- those of us attracted to others are often attracted because ‘the other’ seems mysterious or exotic. I guess I missed that in this video (though I talked way, way too much) because to me Indian culture and Indian people are not as exotic and mysterious to me as say, fifteen years ago!

This is a video Response to my thoughts on the article "White women find desi or Indian guys less attractive?" on the Indians Abroad Blog.
