Last week, I posted some details on posting comments to Alaivani.com.

This week, I am going to discuss registering to be able to post comments to Alaivani.com.

Many of you who have been following my other website for the past 10 years know that on and off I have had forums, guest books or some type of interactive forum for browsers to interact with me and each other.  These types of things take a lot of effort to moderate, though they do provide invaluable insight.  However, over the years, these interactive areas were not constant because of a few rowdies who would come in and harass, spam or add inappropriate content to my site.  Because of those experiences, it took me a long time to open up a constant blog, and one with scope for interaction with browsers.

Up to this point, many who have registered are either personally known to me or have been members of my other yahoo groups or websites and so I am familiar with you and your feedback styles.  But, I have recently received questionable registrations. Before I share my thoughts with you, I would like to say thank you to those who have registered and used my forum honestly (as per the posting rules).

Once you register, and your information is submitted, the information is sent to me, the administrator of this blog.  I, then, carefully analyze the contents.  When this happens, I try to look up your profile through yahoo if you have a yahoo account, Google your e-mail ID, Google your name or anything I can to see if I can get to know you.  This is why I had put a bio section on the register page, if you write something there, that can give me a better idea as to who you are and what kind of internet user you are.  Also, how much I can trust you to post appropriately on this blog.

When I search/Google you, if your profile is suitable to me, I will do one of two things.  One, I may contact you directly to tell you I am still considering your application and please let me know a bit more about yourself or I will approve your membership and personally send you an e-mail welcoming you to alaivani.com.

If I Google you and you are not suitable for membership, I will delete your request and not contact you personally as why would I want to initiate conversation with a person or entity that could be a potential trouble maker to me or my site?

What this means is if you realize you aren’t authorized, and don’t receive a welcome message from me within a week, you are not authorized.  If this happens, I expect you to respect this decision by not resubmitting your information multiple times.   If I am tricked and I find out later that this happens, your membership will be deleted without warning and all your posts will be deleted from my site.

Please help me, users of alaivani.com, to be responsible internet citizens so this can be a safe, spam-free and harassment-free area of the web.
