Hindu/Secular- Kerala

**Tamil New Year traditionally falls on April 14 as it coincides with the Tamil calendar year- Chiththrai 1 which is the first month, first day of the Tamil calendar year. However, Tamil government has changed the "official" celebration/observation of this day to January 14 as of 2008. Any public holidays or work days-off would be observed on April 14, most likely. Spiritually, however, people would continue to celebrate Tamil New Year on April 14.
