Culture Shock Breakthroughs: Adapting New Habits to Create Success

I always wondered what made some people successful when transitioning in life. For me, being successful in high school was easier than college. Being successful in college in America was easier than India. Being successful as a social worker between agencies with the same job also created unexpected cultural challenges. In this transition, I moved to a city from a village and from a rural agency to an urban agency.  Though I was in the same country, in the same state, only two hours drive separated my old life and new life, I realized change is an evolution and it doesn’t happen overnight.

So, how did I adapt to the new roles and requirements placed upon me?

It was not easy. And while facing the situation, I often did not know what was troubling me or making it difficult for me to be successful. I had tried the other methods, such as mentoring and relating to others and even a lifestyle inventory on a small scale, which was helpful much of the time. But for those times it wasn’t, I had to take it a step further.
In these situations, I had to chill out, give myself a break, and realize that this new behavior did not have to translate into all parts of my life- but only in certain areas of my life for those areas to be successful.

Listen to the slideshow video for how to use the ‘Three Tier Behavior Inventory’ to hear how I used this technique to have a cross-cultural adjustment breakthrough in a new academic environment as an American student in India!

I am honored to be in touch with you! Thank you for spending your valuable time with me. This five part series lasts in total about 30 minutes.
